AS5823/4High Power Factor Non-Isolated Dimmable LED Controller

DESCRIPTION

The AS5823 and AS5824 both provide a dimmable buck solution with high PFC control for LED lighting applications. They are especially suitable for low output voltage but high current LED applications. It is easy to design them with minimum BOM cost and very compact PCB size.

The AS5823 comes in a SOT26 package and users can choose their own 40V Vds rating power MOSFET for pairing, while the AS5824 has a built-in power MOSFET and comes in a SOP8 package.

The AS5823 and AS5824 use CCM topology to reduce the inductor ripple current to minimize EMI during switching. They also use the constant-off-time technology to generate variable switch frequency to spread the switch spectrum. These features make AS5823/4 EMI friendly.

The AS5823 and AS5824 use a patent-pending current control scheme that provides flicker-free LED dimming and works well with most of dimmers on the market in wide voltage range. By this innovation, users don't need to add extra circuits to secure the dimmer’s holding current. They can be easily designed to work with either leading-edge or trailing-edge type of dimmers and have a wide dimming range.

The AS5823 and AS5824 feature inductor open protection, inductor short protection, over current protection, CS short protection and over temperature protection. The built-in protection mechanisms can easily allow circuit designers to meet most safety requirements in their designs.
